Backbenchers rebel on empty property tax
More than 35 backbenchers have signed an early-day motion calling for the scrapping of the empty-property tax.
Linda Riordan, Labour MP for Halifax , said it was an added tax burden paid for by those whose properties were not making them an income.
The removal of empty-property rate relief was a tax on hardship, she said.
The government has decided to impose the full £1.4bn cost of commercial property rates on empty buildings.
