Thames Valley Business Park Microsoft Building 5 scoops BCO award
Microsoft won the BCO award for Fit-Out of Workplace for the fifth of what could potentially be a six building campus, this four storey building contains 8,000 sq m of administrative headquarters for Microsoft.
This was a pilot project for Microsoft in Europe and the intention was that it would lead the way in changing the design approach to space and the way it is used through improved flexibility, collaboration, technology and identity.
This project has taken advantage of branding opportunities and achieved a recognisable Microsoft identity. The use of the vivid colours of the Windows brand has enlivened the space and differentiates the floors across the atrium.
Impact on the environment was an important consideration both during construction and for on-going operations. The project target is BREEAM “Very Good” and it is in the final stages of assessment.
It took approximately 10 months from the time the shell and core building was complete, to the time staff moved in. The building has been well received by the end users and the indication is that the pilot has been successful and that this is the future of workspace for Microsoft.
